Schools leading the way

Pupils and teachers around the country have been proving themselves worthy contributors over the last month, as children everywhere have been actively involving themselves in various Mary’s Meals schemes.

Six brave staff members from Wycombe High School completed a sky dive in Oxfordshire in aid of Mary’s Meals, jumping a massive height of 10,000 feet out of a plane. The staff are just short of their target donation of £4000, www.justgiving.com/whs-skydivers.

St Iltyd’s School in Cardiff collected a total of 212 bags and raised £1000 for the Backpack project, so much they managed to spell out the name ‘Mary’s Meals’ with the bags donated!

Cardinal Newman Catholic School in Brighton have been making a great effort recently, training some of their pupils to act as ‘Mary’s Meals Ambassadors’ to the nearby primary schools, delivering speeches in their assemblies.

Ferintosh Primary School in Dingwall were visited by Mary’s Meals Animator Tom Chamberlain in May, who was collecting backpacks from schools in the area.

S1 pupils from Campbeltown Grammar School have been busy helping to launch the Change Challenge in their school. Kids have been showing powerpoints to their fellow pupils, and two pupils, Megan and Sophie took it upon themselves to take their Mary’s Meals collection boxes home, and returned with nearly £30. Well done to them.

St Dominic’s Sixth Form College in Harrow organised a staff 5-a-side football tournament, which over 60 people took part in. They raised £505 on the day, and pictured are the winning team, with their official mascot, Bonzer!

It’s not all just pupils and teachers fundraising for Mary’s Meals however. Sandra Hanauer, of Haslemere Garden Centre in Surrey, has been doing her best to publicise and raise funds for us, and has already raised £3000 by selling second-hand books in her café.

Congratulations and many thanks to everyone who has helped to fundraise for Mary’s Meals over the last month.
