Volunteer Research Assistants, Glasgow

Mary’s Meals is a global movement supported by people from all walks of life and we are focused on one goal – that every child receives a nutritious daily meal in a place of education. We continue to change the lives of over 1.4 million children who today will receive a Mary’s Meal.

Mary’s Meals International is looking for Volunteer Research Assistants to join our Strategic Policy & Partnerships team. Working as part of a talented and dedicated team based here in Glasgow, you will be passionate about the power of research and have a real desire to help our organisation learn and develop.

Mary’s Meals is currently conducting longitudinal impact assessment research in Malawi, Zambia and Liberia. These impact assessments help us to understand more about the impact that our school feeding programmes are having on the lives of children and their communities. We are looking for organised and detail focused graduates with the ability to organise and code transcripts from approximately 300 focus groups undertaken between 2014-2019 as part of our impact assessment research.

Key Activities:

·        Applying best practices in qualitative data management to the coding, naming and storage of Mary’s Meals focus group and interview data.

·        Organising data from focus groups with children, teachers, volunteers and households, transferring data from Microsoft Word into Excel.

·        Coding focus group data in Microsoft Excel using agreed themes.

·        Developing and adapting the thematic framework for the data coding, as new themes arise.

·        Using the coded data to develop reports and analysis to support our impact assessment reporting.

You might be a masters or doctoral student looking for some practical experience in working with qualitative datasets. Or perhaps you have experience in research and would be keen to dedicate some of your time and talents to improving the lives of over 1.4 million children. Knowledge of the role of education and school feeding in developing countries, would be fantastic but not essential.

We are grateful for whatever time you could offer – our Glasgow office is open between 8am -6pm. Please let us know what you could offer in your application email.

Mary’s Meals is a values driven organisation, we believe in the innate goodness of people, respect the dignity of every human being and family life and believe in good stewardship of the resources entrusted to us. In line with our values Mary’s Meals is fully committed to a culture of safeguarding.

If you would be keen to gift your time to make a real difference in the lives of children all over the world, we would love to hear from you.  To apply, please send your CV and an email outlining your availability to jobs.MMI@marysmeals.org
