About the film
Filmed in 2024 in Tigray, Ethiopia, and London, UK, On the Frontlines of Hunger gives voice to the people of Tigray: people whose lives have been devastated by conflict, the threat of famine, and drought, yet whose hope and resilience remain steadfast.
Narrated by Roma Downey, Emmy and Golden Globe nominated actress, and featuring an exclusive in-depth interview with Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow, Founder and CEO of Mary’s Meals and musician and activist Sir Bob Geldof, rare footage from Live Aid 1985, and testimony from those living and working in Tigray today.
This documentary reveals a reality the world has largely overlooked and calls on all of us to listen, to act, and to stand in solidarity.

Why it matters
- Millions of people in Tigray urgently need food aid
- Children are dying from hunger-related and preventable illnesses
- The crisis remains underreported, due to restricted media access
Because of our trusted, long-standing presence in the region, Mary’s Meals was able to reach communities and capture these impactful stories, stories that need to be seen and shared.
Save the date: On the Frontlines of Hunger will premiere on YouTube 5 November
