Cyclone Freddy hits Malawi
Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by Cyclone Freddy.
The tropical storm hit Malawi for the second time at the weekend, causing widespread devastation and the loss of hundreds of lives. The full impact has yet to be confirmed as many remote areas are completely cut off, but thousands have lost their homes and temporary camps are being set up to provide shelter for the displaced.
Mary’s Meals began in Malawi more than twenty years ago, and our programme now serves more than a million children in the country every school day. Our in-country colleagues are liaising with the Malawian Government and other organisations in order to co-ordinate a response. We will provide further updates as the situation becomes clearer.
