Canada – a basketball bonanza!
Basketball players in Canada raise more than $2,750 to feed 86 children for an entire school year.
Mary’s Meals Canada’s annual Basketball Bonanza has become somewhat of an institution, and last year’s was no different! The much-anticipated event – where Calgary Police and Calgary Fire departments went head-to-head on the basketball court for a sixth year to win the Porridge Cup – drew a crowd of students, teachers and families to raise vital funds for Mary’s Meals.
Held this year in Heritage Christian Academy, the event raised $2,754 – enough to provide daily meals for 86 children for an entire school year. And it also had an unexpected winner. Despite the reigning champions – the Calgary Police Department – being favourites to win, it was the Calgary Fire Department that came out on top after maintaining the lead for most of the evening!
