Mary’s Meals is serving more than 5,000 children in Syria
Syria is one of the poorest countries in the Middle East, and ranks 162 out of 193 countries and territories in the Human Development Index (HDI).
Years of conflict, displacement, economic collapse, insufficient agricultural production, and rising food prices have plagued Syria and driven high levels of food insecurity. The country is also in the midst of economic collapse with the cost of food and essential rising way above what those on basic wages can reasonably afford. With so many lives disrupted by years of conflict, attending school is often a low priority for many families. The conflict has devastated education and thousands of schools have been damaged or destroyed.
Together with our partner, Dorcas, we are providing essential meals for children whose young lives have been torn apart by unimaginable trauma. The food is prepared in one school that has reliable access to water and electricity and are then delivered to the other places of education in Aleppo and Hanano District. The promise of school meals for children whose education has been continually interrupted is helping to restore stability and offer hope for a brighter future.
